RGB, CMYK, and LAB color basics

RGB Color Space.

Red, Green, Blue - Additive color space. All colors add up to white. Web color is RGB.

LAB Color Space.

Luminance, A and B for the color-opponents. Designed to approximate human vision. Why should I care?

As a photographer, Color space isn't really required learning. There are usually other people and lots of technology at the print and display end of your images who are well versed in their trades be it print, web, or another type of imaging (fused deposition modeling... anyone?)

So why should I care? To create better images, of course!

Presentation is the key

Knowing how your images are going to be viewed and then working backwards, you can create your images with the presentation in mind every step of the way. Many beginners haven't quite grasped in their minds exactly how the end result will look, so this could be considered a more advanced tutorial for some.

Getting your head around the first 6 tutorials will go a long way towards visualizing the final image.

What this tutorial isn't

This tutorial isn't about color matching swatches from fabric for a catalog shoot, or working from the Pantone library, this is about experiments in post processing to compliment and enhance you photographic style. If you're on a tight deadline or budget (or both!), move along. If you're into cross processing, alternative printing techniques like laser etching, or multimedia and multi mediums, you may be in the right place! A word of caution; trying anything new just because it's cool or popular won't necessarily make your images cool or popular - see Poor Presentation for an epic fail.
